New Drug Alert: Methoxpropamine (MXPr)

A new synthetic drug is discovered each week on average. This week’s drug is a new synthetic hallucinogen called Methoxpropamine (MXPr). Methoxpropamine (MXPr) is classified as a novel hallucinogen, with subclassification as an arylcyclohexylamine. Novel hallucinogens have been reported to cause effects similar to ketamine and phencyclidine (PCP). Novel hallucinogens have caused adverse events, including deaths. Structurally similar arylcyclohexylamines include methoxetamine (MXE) and methoxmetamine (MXM). Analogues in this series are not scheduled in the United States.

Pricing and Effects of Methoxpropamine (MXPr)

Although MXPr is being listed as a newly discovered drug, a quick search on Google shows several trip reports from people claiming to have used it. A trip report is a report written by a person while they are high, or right after getting high so that others can understand the drug’s effects. Another quick Google search shows several Chinese firms selling the drug on the open web as a “research chemical.”

One user reported feeling effects with as little as 10mg of the drug. This same user claimed that 20-25 mg caused speech impairment. The user used a final dose of 90 mg by “plugging” (taking the drug rectally). You can read more about “plugging” by reading our prior story “Everything You Need to Know About Booty Bumping.”

The drug can come in either a white or tan powder. It sells for about $650 US for 10 grams from one retailer while another charges $1,500 US for 15 grams.

A user on the Reddit forum /research chemicals gave the following trip report:

I LAID IN MY BED WITH CHILL TUNES TO ENJOY THE DISSOCIATION. BUT IT WAS LACKING SOMETHING. I LOVE THIS FULL BODY MASSAGE WHAT KETAMINE GIVES YOU WHILE YOU ARE FLOATING TROUGH THE WONDERFULL CEVS. BUT NOTHING HAPPENED, ONLY THIS DISSOCIATED FEELING AND MUSIC WAS MEH. SO I REDOSED 20MG AGAIN BECAUSE I WANT TO CROSS DIMENSIONS. BUT THESE 20MG MADE ONLY THE DISSOCIATION STRONGER. IT FELT VERY COLD WITHOUT EUPHORIA AND NO CEVS. I CRAVED FOR A HOLE LIKE EXPERIENCE AND REDOSED 30MG AGAIN. SO I HAD ABOUT 100MG MXPR WITHIN A HOUR. NOW THE FULL BODY MASSAGE BEGAN AND IT WAS MORE JOYFULL THAN BEFORE. BUT STILL NO CEVS OR ALTERNATED THOUGHTS. ONLY COLD DISSOCIATION, MUSIC HEARD LIKE SHIT AND A LITTLE BIT FLOATING WAS GOING ON. DAMN WHAT IS THIS, I THOUGHT THIS WILL BE THE NEXT PRAISED MXE SUBSTITUTE (NEVER HAD MXE IN MY LIFE SO I CANT TELL). REDOSED AFTER 20 MINUTED 40MG AGAIN BUT THIS TIME SUBLUINGAL. I WAS STILL ABLE TO WALK BUT VERY WONKY AND I WAS MEANWHILE VERY DISSOCIATED. SO I INGESTED 140MG MXPR OVER 1 1/2H. AS I CLOSED MY EYES IT FELT LIKE I WAS DRIVING ON A TRAIN, I HAD THIS FEELING OF SPEED. MY BODY MELTED, STRETCHED AND ROTATED DURING THIS “JOURNEY“ ON THE TRAIN….WITH NEARLY NONEXISTANT VISUALS. MY BRAIN FELT LIKE MUD AMD I HAD A HEADSPACE THAT I WAS ON THE WAY TO MY JOB WITH THE TRAIN….DAMN I DONT KNOW. IT WAS THE MOST UNSATISFACTORY DISSOCIATIVE EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE EVER. I TRIED TO SIT DOWN AND MEDITATE ON IT TO JUST BE WITH THIS FEEL, I DIDNT KNOW WHAT I SHOULD DO INSTEAD. SO I SIT THERE, HAD THE FEELING OF SITTING DOWN ON THE TOP OF A TRAIN IN PURE COLD BLANKNESS. AFTER 2 HOURS THE DISSOCIATION FADED FINALLY.

The “hole” that the writer is referring to is commonly called a “K Hole” by ketamine users. The K Hole occurs when the user is totally dissociated. I have evaluated a few people under the influence of Dissociative Anesthetics. Often, these people will explain that their head is separated from their body and they are looking down at themselves.

Signs and Symptoms

Abusing MXPr can lead to a psychological dependence. Over time, the user develops a tolerance, meaning they have to take more to get the same effects. Some signs can include:

  • Redness of the skin
  • Slurred speech
  • Depression
  • Rapid eye movements
  • Insomnia|
  • Irritability
  • Antsy behavior
  • Loss of coordination
  • Disorientation
  • Respiratory distress
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Psychotic episodes and hallucinations
  • Slowed movement
  • Impaired cognitive function
  • Numbness
  • Elevated heart rate and blood pressure
  • Impaired judgment
  • Impaired motor function
  • Distorted perceptions of sight and sound

For Those Trained in Drug Abuse Recognition and Drug Recognition Experts

Someone under the influence of Methoxpropamine (MXPr) will show signs of being under the influence of a Dissociative Anesthetic. This includes horizontal and vertical nystagmus, fast pulse and elevated vitals, and dissociation. To have DAR training brought to your organization, you can visit us here for more information.
